About the Virtual Classroom
Although the Educational Portal of the Americas was originally designed as an instrument to provide reliable information about distance learning opportunities, it soon received a mandate to foster the use of ICTs for human development by offering online courses itself. The 2001 mandate intended to address the changing needs of professionals in their pursuit of continuing education. As a result, its Virtual Classroom was created in-house and it has grown to include more than sixty expert tutors who contribute to deliver high quality online courses.
The Portal Classroom places particular emphasis on overcoming several of the major obstacles for improving educational and skills building in the Americas, such as high costs, limited time and limited accessibility. This interactive, virtual environment allows users to participate in training and educational activities and services similar to what one would receive at a traditional academic institution.
Courses offered through the Virtual Classroom are delivered under the academic and technical supervision of tutors. The tutors guide participants throughout the duration of the course by: a) helping them to access course content; b) suggesting reading and reference materials; c) analyzing and evaluating assigned activities; and d) resolving technical problems and answering questions.
In order to access the Virtual Classroom, you must be not only a registered user of the Educational Portal of the Americas but you must register for a specific course, meet the requirements of the course, and receive notification that you have been accepted to participate.
