SUMMARY

In Argentina, different nutritional programs have been implemented over the past six decades; however, since the mid-1980s, many changes have been made, fundamentally with regard to the management of social programs and the various projects carried out by the different jurisdictions. The most important projects are those that focus on mothers and infants, schools and poor families, and use different strategies, including the distribution of food and food stuffs as well as the provision of set meals in different institutional settings. The current epidemiologic profile demands that the programs’ nutritional objectives be redefined in order to create effective strategies for dealing with the nutritional situation, and compliment other actions for improving the living conditions of the poor populations.
