Who are NCA volunteers?

Net Corps Americas’ volunteers come from all over the world, including Latin America and the Caribbean, and bring their expertise in ICT to specific projects. The volunteers range in age from their early twenties into their sixties with a variety of levels and areas of expertise. Each group of volunteers participates in an orientation session before leaving for their post and usually serves for a three-month period. This session includes information on the program, cultural issues, and training to meet the ICT needs of the host organizations. While they are the field, they are monitored by NCA staff and submit reports to analyze the impact of their work.

Net Corps Americas’ Alliance and Future Projects

In its first year of operation, the Trust has deployed 48 volunteers to over 200 organizations in 15 countries. The Trust plans to double that number in the next year and will do so working in close connection with its alliance members. The Net Corps Americas Alliance includes Partners of the Americas, the World Bank, the Pan American Health Organization, and the Amazon Alliance.

In some cases, NCA brokers volunteers from partner organizations to participate in NCA projects. For example, Net Corps Canada, a sister organization, will be deploying volunteers from CUSO (Canadian University Service Overseas), a coalition agency, to participate in a Net Corps Americas’ project.  Three volunteers will be sent to work for conservation and indigenous in organizations in Peru which are members of the Amazon Alliance.

The Trust for the Americas

The Trust for the Americas is a non-profit organization affiliated with the General Secretariat of the OAS. As a non-governmental organization, The Trust can form partnerships with private businesses and at the same time use the powerful infrastructure of the OAS. Since The Trust began two years ago, it has started projects to fight corruption, train leaders, increase employment opportunities for youth, and created Net Corps Americas.

Net Corps Americas continues to develop projects and send volunteers throughout the Americas. NCA welcomes students, university professors, and IT professionals from around the world as volunteers.
