SUMMARY

This article studies the relationship between education and women in order to identify women’s educational needs as they relate to global demands for educational change, increased quality, and equity in a framework of justice for all. The article also offers a summary of the advances of feminism and the construction of the idea of gender by presenting the contributions of education to equality in terms of equivalence, diversity, and free choice in an equalitarian and democratic society. Women’s endeavors and their participation in the educational system of Argentina are described, as are the actions of government for overcoming some of the aforementioned problems. The article concludes with possible strategies for action, and offers suggestions for dealing with themes such as the lack of the working world in the educational system, and the direction of educational action from specific groups of men and women.
