As a response to the increasing demand of professionals with a global vision in the Americas, the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Instituto de Empresa (IE) have decided to support outstanding individuals of the Americas through sponsoring the OAS/OE Scholarships in order for them to continue their academic training through the IE’s Master in Sports Management program.
To achieve this, and with the purpose of continue promoting excellence, social development, and opportunities for talent, the IE Foundation has created a scholarship fund for professionals of all OAS Member States who would like to continue their training at the IE. In this case, the scholarship fund will be utilized to support two (2) scholarships for the Master in Sports Management program, which will start in February of 2010.
The OAS/IE Scholarships are aimed toward students from the OAS Member States who may be able to contribute a particular vision to the Program and to the global focus of the Master’s, as well as to the intellectual diversity of its participants. This is a blended program taught in English, combining two core online periods and three short face-to-face periods.
About the IE and OAS initiatives
IE believes that global awareness is vital to the success of today’s projects in both the public and private sectors. The main aim of the IE Foundation is to provide young people with access to international relations and to offer training programs for professionals in the different areas of IR. Additional activities include arranging scholarships, research projects and the creation of a special fund for the publication of texts. Thus the Foundation generates opportunities for young people starting out in their careers, fostering the international vocation that is so vital for economic and social development.
The General Secretariat of the OAS, through its Department of Human Development (DHD), is committed to promoting and supporting human capacity building by improving educational opportunities for the people of the Americas. In this regard, the OAS endeavors to offer Scholarship awards and financial aid for on-site and on-line academic studies and research and professional development Programs.
Program applicable for this scholarship: Master in Sport Management
Format: Blended, in English
Opening of announcement: October 2, 2009
Starting date: February 2010
Duration: Thirteen (13) months
Geographic Area: Candidates with nationality and/or permanent residence from any OAS Member State will be eligible, with the exception of Honduras, currently suspended.
Benefits: Two (2) scholarships for the IE’s Masters in Sports Management program will be awarded. The IE programs are charged in Euros; the amount in dollars may vary year to year.
- One 50% Scholarship, corresponding to approximately 19,300 US$, covered by the IE.
- One 40% scholarship, corresponding to approximately 15,440 US$, covered by the IE.
Students are responsible for:
- The remaining academic tuition fees of the program, which for the first case is the residual 50% of the costs (19,300 US$) and for the second, the other 60% (23,160 US$). The IE programs are charged in Euros; the amount in dollars may vary year to year.
- Air tickets.
- Visa expenses (the IE provides support through its Student Office)
- A standardized contribution of 1,100€ (approximately 1,650 US$) to the IE Foundation (for further information about the IE Foundation, please refer to: http://www.ie.edu/esp/sobreie/sobreie_fundraising.asp).

Evaluation Criteria:
The following evaluation criteria will be considered for the análisis and selection of the candidates:
- Financial need.
- Geographic distribution and diversity.
- Intention of returning to the OAS Member State or of working at an International Organization.
- Work experience.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Availability of financial resources to cover the rest of the program’s expenses.
- Phone interview.

Requiriments
To have started the IE’s admission process for the program. To present the following documents in English to request the scholarship to FinancialAid@ie.edu:
- Curriculum Vitae (1 page)
- Essays:
- In your opinion, how important is management education to the development of your region over the next 10 years?
- In your opinion, what is the most important issue or opportunity today in the sports industry?
- Why should you be granted a scholarship? What responsibilities come along with being a scholarship recipient?
- Please include a financial plan explaining how you intend to finance the program and living costs
- Supporting documents: Any other document that could provide further evidence of the fulfillment of the criteria on the basis of which the scholarship is awarded.
- Economic Criteria: for example last 3 payslips (or bank statements from the bank his/her payslip is paid into, signed and stamped by said bank) of the scholarship applicant or the person who will be paying the remaining program fees
- Professional and Personal Merit Criteria: for example, awards, publishing, voluntary work certificates, diplomas or certificates accrediting language skills, courses, seminars, other higher education degrees or programs undertaken by the candidate
- In order to clarify any aspect of the scholarship application, IE will decide the need of a further interview by phone subsequent to the sending of the required documentation.
Selection Process:
- All complete applications and documents should be sent to IE before November 15, 2009. By this time, it is essential to have finalized the corresponding IE admission process beforehand.
- The IE and the OAS will notify the selected candidates by the end of November, 2009.
- Class starts on February 15, 2010.
