MODALITY: On site

OBJECTIVES: To organize a learning course that develops both knowledge and skills for successful poverty reduction strategies and interventions.

• Module II: Poverty Reduction Strategies and Participatory Frameworks
• Module III: Monitoring and Evaluation of Poverty Interventions.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of an OAS Member state, (residents must send copy of visa).

  • Be able to communicate professionally in written and spoken English, with documentary evidence if neither is not the native language.

  • Be senior level government officials and executives of state-owned agencies who are involved in poverty reduction programmes or projects:

  • Be senior level government officials or senior managers / executive of state-owned agencies or an academic / practitioner or those who will be promoted to a relevant position in the near future

  • Have an educational background in economics, management, public policy making, or other relevant disciplinary areas, and at least ten years of related work experience

  • Be interested in study about and keen on enhancing poverty interventions

  • Be physically fit to fulfill the obligations of the course; and able to attend the entire course

  • Submit a duly completed request before the deadline established by the National Liaison Office (ONE) . The candidate is responsible for finding out the deadline set by the ONE in his/her country of residence.

BENEFITS:
The Government of Thailand and the Training and Development Centre will provide:
• Economy class, round trip airfare transportation from point of residence to study site
• Room and board
• Ground transportation expenses
• Other expenses concerning training registration and tuition
• Medical treatment in case the applicant becomes ill

RESPONSIBILITY OF SCHOLARSHIPS RECIPIENTS:

  • Must have health and accident insurance coverage abroad.

  • The selected candidates must confirm their acceptance to the OAS Department of Human Development in Washington, DC, the OAS General Secretariat Office in their respective countries and through the ONE in order for the OAS to proceed with making the necessary travel arrangements to purchase the air travel tickets, economy class, round-trip, between their country of origin or residence and the study location or, if the scholarship is refused, to appoint another candidate.

  • Selected scholarship recipients are responsible for obtaining the necessary visa(s) to enter the country of study and the corresponding transit(s). The OAS will not be responsible for any costs relating to obtaining visas or transfer documentation.

  • Each scholarship recipient is responsible for arriving in time for the commencement of activities on the date established by the institution offering the course or program.

  • If the scholarship recipient fails to travel on the scheduled dates, or change routes, after the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (GS/OAS) has purchased his/her travel ticket, he/she will be responsible for paying the difference in ticket costs in order to arrive at the course site in time. The scholarship recipient will furthermore have to reimburse the GS/OAS the total cost of the airfare for his/her travel from his/her country of residence to the site where the Professional Development Course will take place and back if, after the ticket has been purchased, he/she declines the scholarship without written authorization from the Department of Human Development. The latter includes any additional costs, if any, incurred by the GS/OAS, such as extra costs for accommodation during the scholarship recipient’s travel to and from the country where the course will be held.

  • If the scholarship recipient renounces, cancels or otherwise terminates the scholarship after the scholarship has begun, without showing sufficient cause to the GS/OAS, he/she will have to reimburse GS/OAS the amount of all scholarship expenses spent on his/her behalf.

SUBMISSION OF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS: The Thai Fellowship Application Form for this course may be obtained from the OAS offices of the General Secretariat in the Member states or via the fellowship application page using the following link: http://www.educoas.org/Portal/dhd/becas2007/Fellowship_Application_Form%20Thailand.pdf; including all documentation required.

Applications must be forwarded to the Organization of American States through the official channels established by the government of each country (ONE). This is a mandatory requirement.
