OAS/IE SCHOLARSHIP
MASTERS IN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS PROGRAM |

Due to the increasing demand for professionals with a global vision of international relations and the current important role of the countries of the Americas, the Organization of American States (OAS) and IE have decided to sponsor young American talent by launching the OAS/IE Scholarships for the Masters in International Relations Program.
These scholarships, intended for students from any member country of the OAS who can make a particularly relevant contribution to the global outlook and intellectual diversity of the Master in International Relations at IE, will cover 65% of the program’s tuition fees for the 2008-2009 intake.
About the IE and OAS Scholarship Initiative
IE believes that global awareness is vital to the success of today’s projects in both the public and private sectors. The main aim of the IE Foundation is to provide young people with access to international relations and to offer training programs for professionals in the different areas of IR. Additional activities include arranging scholarships, research projects and the creation of a special fund for the publication of texts. Thus the Foundation generates opportunities for young people starting out in their careers, fostering the international vocation that is so vital for economic and social development.
The General Secretariat of the OAS, through its Department of Human Development (DHD), is committed to promoting and supporting human capacity building by improving educational opportunities for the people of the Americas. In this regard, the OAS endeavors to offer Scholarship awards and financial aid for on-site and on-line academic studies and research and professional development Programs.
OAS/IE Scholarship Benefits
The OAS/IE Scholarships will provide:
- 65% of the program’s tuition fees for the 2008-2009 intake.
- The possibility of doing an internship within the OAS upon completion of the Masters program.
Awardees will be responsible for providing:
- The remaining 35 % of program’s tuition fees
- Travel airfare tickets and Transportation
- Monthly subsistence
- Medical Insurance
- Books and materials
- Visa arrangements (assistance will be provided by IE’s student office)
Deadline
The application deadline for the 2008/09 academic year is August 25th, 2008.
If there are funds remaining, an extraordinary round of scholarships will take place in mid-September; the application deadline for the extraordinary round will be September 15th.
Eligibility Criteria
These scholarships are aimed at candidates with outstanding potential and who meet the following criteria:

Have been admitted to the Masters in International Relations or have initiated the application process. Please review the Program requirements at http://www.mir.ie.edu/

English proficiency to undertake the studies of the Program

After completion of the Program, return to work at one of the member countries of the OAS or at an International Organization for a minimum of 12 months.
Application Process
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria should submit the following documents to becasoea@ie.edu:
- CV/Resume (1 page).
- Two essays (each min. 250, max. 500 words) one each of the following topics:
- In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge faced by international relations nowadays and why?
- In your opinion, what role should the private sector play within international relations?
- Why should you be awarded this scholarship?
- Indicate how the learning experience obtained from your studies could benefit your country
- How are you planning to finance the rest of the program’s fees and living expenses.
- Any other documents that could provide further evidence of the fulfillment of the criteria on the basis of which the scholarship is awarded . These documents can include financial support documents, academic merits and professional and personal achievements.
Selection Process
- A complete set of documents must be submitted before August 25th, 2008.
- IE and OAS will notify selected candidates by August 27th, 2008.
- Classes start on October 8th, 2008.
